I am trying to get signups on my site at websitebids.net.. In an attempt to do so, i created a $50.00 giveaway contest as an incentive for people to signup.. placed athread on DP about it, and it ended up scrolling down the page with absolutly no results..

    What am i doing wrong??
Why are people no taking advantage of a free shot at $50.00?

Anybody have any ideas as to how i can produce traffic into signups?

    Thanks.
    Tim

    Nice site.

First off, contests do not work. Posting on boards do not work either. As you already found out.

How many people have come to your site so far? It takes a lot of people to come in for just one to sign up. You do know that, right?

You only have 10 sites listed.

No offense, but what did you expect???

You should consider revamping your site.

Get rid of the categories section, because there is really nothing there. It is a negative for your site.

Take those 10 sites and turn it into a slideshow. Make the screen prints of the sites much bigger, to where the text can be read. Put its info either below it or to the right. Underneath that have a "next" arrow or button to go to the next site. On that second slide in your slide show, have a "previous" arrow or button if they choose to go back.

Underneath each next and previous, put in the thumbnails of all your sites, and make those a link too.

    Here's mine: http://www.thelist.fm/dating-pictures.htm

But of course the background color may not work for you. I'm just toying with it for now.

On each slide, page put in your "site news."

For example: "Selling your website and wondering where to sell it online?"

Put that title underneath, and to its right put in a nice picture. Underneath that put in the start of that article. Like the first paragraph, Or, maybe a description of what they are about to read. Then there will be a "read more" link for them to click on.

Have the links open a new window.

Put in your sign up window right in front of their face on very page, and ASK them to sign up, and why they should!

I don't know, maybe put the form just below the line of thumbanil screen prints.

After it's all done, it should be just like that. No left column that has your news and item categories.

This makes it easier to see, more user friendly, thus increasing your odds for sign ups.

The best way to get signups is by being on the first page of the search engines (particularly) Google for many of the major keywords you are targeting. Then, even a 1% return, which may be bad for many, will still be great providing the amount of traffic received. Question is, are you willing to put in the work to get to the near top? I.e. tens of thousands of backlinks to dethrone your competitors.

Frankly the only contests I even consider are bonus contests for affiliate programs I am already a part of :)

I was talking to selfhelpbooks about the url.

    Sorry for the confusion.

But don't give up just yet on the redesign of the site.

    Good luck with it, regardless.
