If I made free as negative keyword (-free), so whether my ad will not appear for the query [free music] (exact match) and free music (broad match)

Is negative keywords applies for exact match type or broad match type??

    any idea??

    Thanks,
    Samroy

As far as I known: yes, it will prevent any impression for your:

    [free music]
    free music

and also any other broad keyword that you have for example:

    music

that the user add the keywords free for the same search.

..do a test: add the keywords and test these keywords receive impressions

I've seen the same and do believe you are correct.

My only question would be why would you bid on [free music] and add -free as a negative keyword match? I would just bid on [music] in that case...

My guess is that he want to exclude the bargain keyword "free" for other keywords that he has in this ad group but he want to keep an exception for the keyword music and allow "free music"

If this is the case he must create a new adgroup with the same ads (use the tools>copy ads) and ad the keyword [free music] there with no negative keyword in this new ad group.

I'd go with a new ad group myself.

You can't have it both ways, I'm afraid. Thus, the negative word will apply to any search that includes the word free and this will certainly apply to a search for free music.
