Help on Google SERP Penalty

I have a PR 4 site and I wrongly got involved in Link exchange scheme bcoz of which Google had penalized me and my SERP went down. However my PR remained the same.

After 2 1/2 months I had all the Outgoing links removed from my site and I filed a re-consideration request accepting my mistake and promised never to do that. Few days later the penalty had gone and I was ranking well again.Alas after 2 days of penalty removal the filter has came back for some reason.

Now, Wasn't the site clean for Google to remove the Penalty? Secondly, Can this be temp. bcoz of Google dance where Old Search Database is replaced for few hours?

    Please suggest for the same.

Did you create link farm on your website?

If yes, than remove links which are not relevant to your website theme.

Having good link exchange partner are always better.

Just do link exchange with high pr and quality sites.

Have you added the links of your link partners. Then check the links of your website they have added. If it looks good then fine else send email request to the webmaster of your link partner websites for removal of your link from the pages. May be your ranking went down due to the google dance or it may due to the link exchange with link farm. SO better carefully check your link in the partner's link pages.

All the link were removed. My question is that when Google found the Site OK. It had removed the penaltyand when no changes happened, How did it add back the same penalty?

Those bad links were likely helping you rank well - until google gave you the penalty. With those links gone, you don't have the same juice going to your site, so a drop in SERPS would be expected. Unless you made changes after the penalty was removed, I doubt you still have a penalty.

I had no changes to the site after penalty removal and the site is over 5 years old with google SERP ranking even before link exchange and after the penalty was removed it got back those same ranking but after 2 days everything vanished again.

Google has many datacenters. Did you check your position/listings in all of them?

Give it a couple of weeks and see what happens. A five year old site has built up some trust, and even though the penalty was removed, it could still be on a type of probation. Google is also doing manually reviews of sites and giving them a rating - and a reinclusion request means someone is going to look at the site - nothing you can really do but give it some time.

When you remove all links means including those good sites you link exchanged with were also removed?

Well Hopefully things can be fixed. Thanks.

Quite a few of the link exchange from other sites were removed too. BTW, all those sites are PR 5 related sites.

I have exactly the same problem on an 8 year old site.

Wrote to google, got included in the search, ranked well, then a day later back to where it was.

This was on Monday, I am just going to leave it a month and see what happens. For me it is only the .co.uk search which has the problem, all over ones are fine.

Google does not like link exchanges and are really cracking down on them - they are not natural "votes" for a site - they are only done because the other site is linking back to you. If you want the link exchange purely for traffic (and not an attempt to manipulate PR or SERPS), then google wants it to be a nofollow link.

i think your in the Sandbox
This is no penalty, but you get a huge serps drop.

Google don't stop sandbox filters. They cant help you.
You need to get out by using the good way ( more content, links, ...)

Kindda same thing happened with me....

I lost my PR and went to PR0... My Serp ranking noticeably went down.... Fixed one mistake I thought was the reason, (adding nofollow to sponsored posts), and applied for reconsideration. Two days later, they gave me back my PR, but still no improvement in Serp ranking.

I now also noticed I have been involved since long time ago, with something similar to a link farm. Will remove that and apply again for reconsideration. Let's see.

This has nothing to do with the sandbox. The sandbox is an aging factor on new sites for certain competitive keywords. It doesn't apply to a 5 year old site.

Does all the the links you do trade links are related to your site? If not, remove those unrelated and retain those relates to your site.

All were related to my site. Now, this is kinda funny and irritating. I go back to square one for Web Search just before the reconsideration request but hit a jackpot on Google Image search. I have a very good SERP on Image search for a lot of terms.

    Now can someone explain?
