Hello everyone, my name is Ruben and i want to get started on blogging, I love to write and blogging is a great opportunity to get an audience for free. I do understand it's not just about posting and boom I will have readers so that's why I'm seeking help here on how to get started. I would love to write and make a living doing it but hey I'm in my 30's so becoming a journalist is out of the question, so I believe blogging is just perfect. I do have a a couple of blogs, one it's just for fun, pretty much to keep in touch with friends. Can it become a source of income I doub it but who knows and I must confess I did put adsense on it. the other one even though I love the topic I thought about income first so what can I say? I will have to go back to the drawing board and get priorities straight. I will just have to start over again since I don't think I'm doing it right.

I read in here and other places as well that to become a blogger you need to have something unique to offer, then bring readers to your blog and make them come back and then monetize, I know there are other steps involved in between. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway I want to find a niche that will take me to my dream job which is writing and living from it, I just don't know what kind of selection process is there. let me tell you what I like and if you could kindly tell me your opinion on wether you think it's a good long term niche I would appreciate it and thank you in adavance.

I love Soccer, I grew up playing it and even though I think I can play it and know about the ins and outs of it, I don't know how it could be a source of income for the future. Next I am a Sergeant in the Marines been in for 12 years and had many experiences, I'm sure I can write about my life in the Marines but how could this become a source of income I don't know, I mean there are no affiliate programs geared towards military I don't think.

Next My wife is an Egyptian Goddess (exagerating a little bit), seriously I'm Hispanic, She's Egyptian and now I have a blog describing our life in the military this is the one with adsense on it, yes I have the writing itch and the money itch, not knowing how or what to put first, well I guess I found out here, so advise please.

I have two black labs so there's a story in itself, these dogs have their own personality, believe me I have a minefield in my backyard from the digging, the female is a slob and the male is a coward who gets scared from big plastic bags and baby gates, many stories here; I know pets could be a good niche so what do you recommend?

I tried getting into Forex before and I did read and practiced a lot but I'm no expert on it, this is the other blog which I thought about money first, believe me I enjoy writing about it but I also know it might be saturated since it's a popular niche, I even tried SEO on it but I'm not sure about it anymore. Next I also have to confess I have fallen to scams in the past for get rich crap so I know better now to review, read, compare, so I could also share about what to avoid when looking for money making opportunities, what do you think?

I have traveled to many parts of the world as part of the Marines so maybe that could be a niche as well, many stories there too. I'm sorry it's such a big post but I'm telling you I'm on auto pilot now and I could go on on, please give me your thoughts, I'm really serious about pursuing my goal and I have eight years since my wife is making me stay until I reach 20 years in the service, so again sorry for such a big post but I know in here I could get really good help from everybody. Thank you for your time, I'll be asking questions around.

    Ruben

Welcome to the forum Ruben :)

If you like soccer, blog about it. Do not expect money at first, but as the blog starts to build a dedicated set of readers, you'll see revenue flowing in automatically.

Use the Adwords keyword tool here- https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal , and find some keyword that you could give quality content on. Ensure it is not too competitive because beating the biggies takes some doing. Promote it steadily- comment on other people's blog, go around in forums, do link exchanges, organise contests and do some marketing. You'll find your readers increasing and that is when you could start thinking about monetising.

There are loads of ways to monetise a soccer blog- Adsense is one. You have plenty of affiliate programs that sell soccer products

PS- Once you start blogging, please divide your post into small paragraphs. A big post like the one you made here can be an instant turn off for most people.

Thanks hey taking advise already, it does look better, see I love to write but I hate grammar, I guess i have to learn a few tips huh.

Again thanks, I think I will write on soccer, I'm passionate about it and with the World Cup coming next year maybe I can get into the bandwagon of reviewing teams and such.

I know for example right now my native country El Salvador will play The US so there's a lot of heated posts going on at the soccer forums, I might seize the opportunity.

There is plenty of stuff in football to write about. Apart from the regular match previews and reviews of various leagues, you always have fresh transfer gossip available.

I would go with the soccer and the black labs.

Sports and pets are two great topics.

Then, I would sign up as an affiliate with Amazon. Use Amazon products on both of your sites. Amazon lets you customize so that, for instance, only books on animals will show on the pet site or books on sports on the sport site.

Check Amazon for products you are familiar with so you can write a Review and include, of course, your affiliate link to the product

And, yes, keep your posts and paragraphs brief. I often have only 2-3 sentences in a paragraph. Makes for much easier reading.

Thanks for the ideas, yeah I'm really inclined to soccer and since I have two labs, I do have a lot of material to write about, would you recommend the nlog to be opinion base, reviews, or news base, or combination?

    Thanks

    Opinion based.

The chances of getting some dedicated readers are more if you give out your own opinions.

People always like a new view on things.

News is probably easy to write about, but there are lots of players in that area already.

Opinion definitely and reviews go along with that as reviews are, technically, your opinion. As for news, if you manage to turn up something unusual, post that and include a link to the original source.
