SO does anyone know where i can get an email for them? All help appreciated thanks J
Just to be clear - you made a video of you performing a cover of someone else's song? Check out this page for information and links: http://cdbaby.net/dd-covers
no its a BMX video with one of there artists msuic in the background, ive added a note at the end of the video but i want to email then to make sure all will be fine J
Are you selling the video ? You can email them, but all will not be fine, they are of course blood suckers like the rest of the business. Good luck. By the way, did you plan to pay the artist or will you use his music for free ?
Oh, I misunderstood. You definitely need to get a license, and I don't think a big company like Sony BMI is going to do that over email. In the US there are standard clearinghouses that deal with licensing of commercial recordings. Check out the links in this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=132863 It would probably be easier and cheaper to find an unsigned band who is willing to provide the music for your video.
I believe what you need are "synchronization" or "synch" rights. http://www.worldwideocr.com/Rights_Synchronization_FAQ.asp http://www.harryfox.com/public/licenseeServicesSynchronization.jsp
You will have to contact Sony BGM company officails over phone & get permissions or get an contract from them & then you can use it without any fear
Good luck. Having negotiated these they don't just hand over the rights to anyone who wants to do something with their property (and potentially image) and Nonny is right on target.
