Help needed to promote a charitable site?

    Hi all,

I spent this week doing charitable work building a site for a young girl who has cancer and whose parents need help raising the money for her treatment and special diet.

Now the basic site is complete and the admins have put some initial content on there, I need to promote it quickly - at low cost - and whilst I have some ideas, I am looking to the incredible community at DP for advice, so I can do the best job for this little girl that needs our help?

Start something viral Do link exchanges in related sites for sure./ But, for charity, viral is the way to go. Have you done a press release yet? You might want to contact your local newspaper

If you haven't written and distributed a press release yet, then that should be a priority. PM me if you want help with this...I am willing to volunteer my services to help out the little girl.

There will be a 'link to us' page with a lil banner/badge soon, thx :)

Yep, I thought viral too - we're looking to distribute the butterfly as a mobile/cell phone background with the web address included, but the tight ass artist won't give up rights to re-distribution, so I gotta re-create a similar but original one before we can do it. It's also holding up the link to us...

I also thought MySpace would be a good viral outlet, but I only have like 1 friend, does anyone know any DP members who could bulletin a bunch of people to kick off spreading the message?

The local paper in Nikita's area is writing another article which will include the web address - or do you mean online article to submit to article sites?

Also, GMTV (UK breakfast TV channel is interested in interviewing the family - so hopefully they'll either link to the site temporarily from their website and/or mention the site on air too... if it happens of course...

I have done a number of events. and promotion is a big issue. Press releases in the local tech wires, e-business news, business news papers is fast and easy. Worked for us. If you can get a PR firm involved in your efforts that can make a big diference. Unfortunately word of mouth, paper fliers at restaurants, businesses, coffee shops, etci is often the most effective. Are you in any net working groups locally. Getting them involved can make a big difference. Chamber of Commerce may help you there. It is definitely a grass roots problem. I actually went to the library and asked them. There are some resources such as coummunity foundations, and centers for nonprofits that may assist. My local American Cancer Society has been very helpful in a number of ventures and I actually now serve on some of there boards. You have a very nice site. Looks like you are getting help. Good luck to you. please PM me, if I can answer in more detail.

I think making a myspace page for the site and joining any groups that are related to cancer or helping sick children would be a great idea.

I would also be more than happy to mention your site on our forums. PM me the info. Anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Local help is essential while a press release can extend that help well beyond a limited geographical area. Strength in numbers!

Will gladly do the same on http://ithinkearthisheaven.blogspot.com , Also will urge other bloggers/friends to do the same . pm me link . good luck.
Also i think if everyone on DP place your link (even just for a week) , funds will be enough to fight cancer .. And i personally think money is much more important than human life(specially a child). So i feel everyone on DP should place his link .

I run a PR firm and used to be in nonprofit PR for a few years, setting up major fundraising events, media relations issues, etc.. Occasionally I do some free work still in the nonprofit sector setting up events and doing press releases. I'd be happy to write a press release for you, and if you send me additional details privately I may be able to help you strategize a little bit on other tactics that work well in a nonprofit / fundraising capacity. I might not be able to respond tonight, but email me at and I'll see if there's something I can do to help in the morning. :)

We have a fairly new (2 months) cancer forum with members discussing different aspects of cancer. Some are patients, some survivors.

I've made the first post about her, feel free to join.

    Help Nikita

And may she get some help.
