Good Morning all my fellow DP members, Recently i won an auction on ebay for a sport related website.Firstly, all though i know concepts of web designing like xhtml, php etc.I'm not much aware of other stuffs like Hosting,Adsense or generating traffic to a website.I did not read the description of the item before bidding on it and after i won it,i received a message from the buyer that i must pay hosting charges extra along with the the amount for which the site was sold. I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this thread. So,mods! Please move this topic to some other section without giving an infraction. Also,i dont think i can paste the link to that item in this thread. So,if anyone can take their time and explain me what i need to do,pm me.I'll send you the link to the item and you can help me on it after that. Regards Lord_Priths
Mods please move - yes this is the wrong section. This is more of a traffic/marketing question, although pretty vague. That's pretty sketchy... they made you pay hosting fee. What's the site?
Generally three things happen here on DP, after you buy a website. 1) You pay for it and receive the files and any accompanying database and images, etc. You should receive everything that is needed to duplicate the website on your host server. 2) You get the domain pushed to your ownership. This is normally free, but you do need to have or open an account where the seller has the domain registered. 3) Once the domain is registered to you. You need to add the domain at your host service, upload the files and import databases, if needed, and change the nameservers to your host servers info at where the domain is registered. Your site should now be functional and ready for you to improve it... If not check with the seller for additional advice. If you purchase at site here at DP: Sometimes a seller may offer free hosting for a few days or weeks to give you a chance to get the files or provide you hosting for a fee. But normally you need to have your own host service. This generally costs around $100 a year for a good host service, but there are free places and cheaper places and more expensive services as well. On eBay - often the way sellers of sites make a profit is to have you commit to purchasing hosting from them as part of the purchase of the website. Typically you must use their hosting service for a year, but terms vary a lot on eBay sites for sale. For the site you purchased on eBay, you need to talk to the eBay seller and see about help with adsense, etc. And have them clarify what the deal you agreed to actually is.
