    Hi again everyone :D,

I have just recently set up my new forum (not yet fully opened to the public. However we have found a major problem. When on the forum the site occasionally says "Critical Error cannot access data base" and I cannot have the forum keep doing this

How do I make this work correctly.
    Please help me

Have you setup and input your Mysql database correctly?
If you have not started your forum yet, I suggest you to reupload the whole script again.

    Hi Adam

This seems to be an occasional problem with phpBB boards. I've seen it as a recurrent problem on boards managed by what I would consider to be very capable webmasters. I think the cause was some sort of database corruption.

You could try periodically running an 'optimize_table' command on each table in your database. Alternatively, if you aren't particularly attached to phpBB, you could try one of the alternatives.

I gathered a few alternative forum scripts on my blog.

I'm hearing very good things about simple machines and fudforum. If you think you might want to integrate your forum membership with a site-wide membership in the future I would say fudforum is your best bet. Punbb also seems to be quite good.

I'm glad you appreciate the text link, every little helps. :)

Fudforum is a very solid package, I haven't used it myself, just looked at the backend to see whether I could integrate it in a project I was considering. The support from the creators is excellent. I had a couple of questions and received responses back from the creator within 24 hours.
