I have a physical server setup with following configs.

    - Core2Quad 2.3 GHz
    - 6 GB ECC RAM
    - Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise SP2
    - IIS 6
    - Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2

I have created one virtual machine named vps1. and Installed Windows server 2008 as guest operating system.

Suppose, I have the following IP configurations on my main physical server.

    Mail Server IP: 1.2.3.4
Other IP addresses that I can use for my server:
    1.2.3.5
    1.2.3.6
    1.2.3.7
    1.2.3.8
    Default Gateway : 1.2.3.3

As IP addresses from 1.2.3.5 to 1.2.3.8 are allocated to my server. I can use it to allocate for my virtual machine(server 2008).

I have added 1.2.3.5 to my guest operating system, windows 2008. Also, I have added correct subnet mask, default gateway and DNS servers. So, I think the config is ok.

But the problem is that 1.2.3.5 is not reachable from the Internet. Please note that my virtual server(guest OS) is connected to the Internet and can reach to 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.3

Any suggestions as to why the virtual machine IP 1.2.3.5 is not reachable from the Internet, not even from the physical server 1.2.3.4 on which this particular virtual machine is created.

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure but it may require to add all allocated IP addresses to main server and then you should be able to use it for your VPS.

No, if the additional IP addresses are allocated to the main server, then they will be routed to the main server, not to the virtual server created on the main(host) machine.

This problem has been fixed. I could now access the VPS from the Internet. The problem was that I was assuming that the Host operatingn system on the Microsoft virtual server does the all network routing for guest operating systems, exactly same as that of the virtuozzo. But it is not the case. Host OS of MS Virtual Server does no routing for VPS under it. Hence, the valid network gateway needs to be used. When I changed the gateway, it started working.
