hi, i am a developer, i have been working with php and joomla for about an year.
i am about to start a little project of mine which is a bit like freelancer.com
so i am stuck in deciding weather i should be writing my own php cms, or i should be using joomla instead, for developing it?
as i have only just one year experience with both. so i think (i may be wrong) that if i work on my php cms i may lack in making it secure. plus it will take a lot of hard work for me if i start from scratch.
where as on the other hand joomla is easy to start the project, but will it help me fully to design what i want to do? and in performance will it be better than my own php cms??
please help me on this. let me know all the merits and demerits of both.
    and suggest a solution.
    thanks in advance

I think Joomla is a good choice: you will have support of communities , free or Paid Extensions , Secure ,easy to develop, MVC , Ready to go , What else you need :)

    it's a hard one after a year.

you'd learn a lot making your own cms though security wise would be best to go with joomla.

Security wise if you go your cms, clean any and all database calls and look at how to profiling your app so you know where any slow bits are.

    good luck and have fun

It depends on you - what you're going to use it for, business or just personal use? If business, I suggest that you use Joomla, it's already made for you and you won't have to worry as much. But if it's for personal use, why not use your own CMS? It's more fun that way.

    it will be for business...
so will joomla will have any effect of performance vs my own php cms??
and is development in joomla take the same time as in writing my own cms??

Well, for starters, Joomla's already been developed - it's pretty mature. If you have your own CMS, sure why not? But you have to remember that it'll cost you more time and effort with your own CMS because you won't have much support.

After having used joomla, wordpress, mambo and (the good ole days) phpnuke and having developed my own system i would always go with wordpress or joomla today.
Just so much more support in an active community.
