I thought Microsoft have done this before and now I'm seeing they're doing it again.

I'm not supporting piracy, but all the people who use a pirate copy of Microsoft Windows just need to turn off the Automatic Windows update to avoid this problem.

But I guess, many non computer geeks will fall into this Microsoft trap.:D

I heard of this rumor circulating and personally I do not have much sympathy to those who choose to use the pirated versions. No one can argue about having no money when Ubuntu Linux, Open Office etc are there for you. It just take up a bit of your time being accustomed to it. Beats being a pirate anytime any day.

Yeah mostly for a very little amount of money, example one copy of windows XP professional i brought boxed and sealed from a mate for £5, that works out about 9 US dollars, is it worth paying 9 US dollars to be legal?, yeah for sure would be my answer...
95% of windows updates are security updates to patch and plug holes that could compromise your privacy and system, I once seen an interesting article on a television programme called Click on the BBC, they installed a fresh computer with a old clean copy of windows XP SP1 and then connected it to the internet, within a period of 1 minute it had been compromised and infected multiple times...

    Here's the workaround from http://www.beatwindowsnoproblems.com

    When black screen is present.

    Hit CTRL-HJK_+
    Hit the space bar twice
    Hit enter.

    Aparently that should get through.
