I need urgent help. I have a forum on smf 1.1.5 with more than 6000 members but my site is on a subdomain on a free host which is currently having problems now. To save my site I want to move to a paid hosting with my new domain name on smf 2.1 i have no idea how to go about this. Please i need help.

This document on the SMF site has helped me quite a few times. The info that it contains can also help you if you break it.

I am really confused. I have a few questions. 1. Is there a way of making the links of my site which is on a subdomain to redirect to my new site. 2. What am i supposed to do with repairsettings.php 3. If i move the files of my smf 1.1.5 forum and my database to the new host how would I upgrade it to smf 2.0. Thanks

First install the backup and then upgrade

You will want to implement a 301 redirect from all of the pages on your free site to the pages on your new site. Yes, that's relatively easy to do.

with such a large forum, you don't want to risk that using smf2.xx

do yourself a favor and use smf 1.1.8

2.xx is still in beta and not totally secure, thats why they call it a beta release. if you need your forum moved by an experienced smf person, i'll do it for a small fee. shoot me a PM if your interested.
