    I use Adwords to promote my sites, to help get them visible, but I find a lot of the keywords I want to use get priced beyond what I am willing to pay for them. I suspect some smart folks here can probably provide some tips to help me get my targeted clicks for less than I pay now.

    Care to share some tips?

    If keywords have the minimum bid set high, or you're finding that you're constantly having to pay more to maintain the same position, it's an indication that your keyword quality scores are too low.

    The Quality Score for a keyword is a combination of the click through rate (CTR), the relevance of the ad text, the relevance of the landing page text & how the CTR you're achieving compares to the average CTR that adWords is seeing others targeting the same keyword achieving.

    If you improve the Quality Score of your keywords then minimum bids will lower & you will get a higher ad placement for the same bid.

    To improve the Quality Score you need to address each of the factors that make it up, and in particular;

    • Set up negative keywords (This will improve your CTR),
    • Use the most appropriate match types,
    • Split test your adverts to fine tune them to convert better,
    • Include the keywords in your advert title & description (Use the '{KeyWord: Default}' wherever appropriate),
    • Make sure your destination page is relevant to the keyword you've bid on.
    Good luck!

    Test ads over and over again. I saw an significant increase in CTR by simply changing the order of a few words in one of my ads.

    Get a group of friends to write down ideas for ads also. You may get some good ideas.
