Aloha, I just started working on a project for my client, and I'm fairly new to using WordPress. My goal is to create a contact form that overlays on top of the home-page slider, or right next to it. I am using gravity forms, but I'm still at a loss when it comes to customizing my form to fit the clients needs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've used both contact forms 7 & gravity forms, the issue is not with building the form, but with customizing it. I would like to add an image above the form, and a custom contact button, instead of the bulky old-school one that's the default. I'm at a loss, and can't find any solid guides online.
To add an image above the form simply stick the image above the shortcode. If you are working with contact 7 you have to play with HTML and CSS, exact editing code depends on your need, go to their official website or WordPress.org support, which is pretty much active for this form. If your client or you can afford Gravity form, why you are wasting your time here? you should contact with industrial class support team of Gravity form provider. I am sure they will help, otherwise in my knowledge gravity form is much more customizable you should read documentation carefully.
You can go with Contact Form 7 but most of the themes have their inbuilt contact forum; so check whether the theme you are using have it in it. I have it in almost all of my themes.

Go with Contact Form 7 as other members sugested. It is the best free contact form available for WordPress. For more styling, well you need to have some coding knowledge.
