Do you want to know whether Google give less importance to .info domain than a .com or do they give any special importance to .me domain so that it can rank well all over the world? I have asked the question to be answered in Matt Cutts next video interview. Vote for me & help me to be chosen. This is not a referral link, just the question link. So don't remove the post. Login there & vote. Thanks
I believe many people are interested in this question,so I suggest people knowing the answers to share their knowledge.
Don't you want to get something official from Google about these topics? Vote for me & reply here to keep this thread alive & on top
I voted for your question, don't know why at this stage it has an equal number of votes against it. It's a commonly asked question, I come across it all the time. I think I know Matt's answer though, .info is treated exactly the same as .com, and .me is not given any special treatment on google.com, it is considered more relevant in Montenegro and that's it. That's I think he'll say... But whether that is the real answer, i.e. the truth, is another matter
That's a really good question. I'd wait for Matt to answer it. BTW, you can check a few videos which already answered some similar question.
Hey, dude, i am not Matt Cutts, and i am also not SE expert, but i can tell you that Google treats .com or .me domains is the same, it's common sense and my personal opinion only.
Agreed... Why waste a question that is already been asked Ask about penalties or something worthy not that N00B question laterz malcolm
search userbars in google the second result is userbars.be if it gives importance to .be domains why not .info all depends on sites traffic
I'm pretty sure it's not like that because Google are giving the .be domain importance. I'm sure it's just some good SEO work on that site.
All domains are treated the same, however search results are localised nowadays. Therefore if you go to google.co.uk you will see different results to that of google.ca for example. When people search on google they want to see results according to their own country not just a general site.
Well. I'm pretty sure i know what he'll say, but I gave you my vote. I don't know why people are bring so picky about it - it's a question that comes up frequently on digitalpoint, and if we have any sense of community at all, what does it hurt you to just log-in and click.
Google consider what content is on domain and not even domain name (it can help you if you can get keyword from it but nothing less and nothing more).
That's the problem! People seem to talk much & vote less here. They don't have any curiosity. Some of them have asked the same question again & again, but are now giving their opinions without having a decent knowledge By the way, thanks for your vote. And I have also a bit of assumption what he will say. But I just want to have a official standpoint of Google
I can answer your question now, no they don't give prominence. All domains carry the same weighting but it is how you promote them. The reason that .edu or .info domains seem to have higher PR's is because they are normally attached to sites that house a wealth of information i. colleagues and universities and as such they are constantly updated with lots of information. It's not the domain that matters it's the way you promote it. Just keep building the back links
