Last year I bought a music software site called SonicSpot.com. I am in the process of having the content brought up to date, populating the database with entries for music and audio software programs. Once I get through that, the site desperately needs a face lift. Well, more than a face lift - it needs to have its whole look and feel, as well as its user interface, completely rethought. I haven't even begun to get my head around it, but in order to get started I thought I would toss it out here to get peoples' thoughts on how to bring the site to current standards. URL is http://www.sonicspot.com
My first impression is that your sites a bit plain. I like the tables and rounded corners, but the logo is rather lame. At the very least, throw a shape in there to lift the eyes from a logo attempt by formatted text. I'd also work on filling more text into your site. Primarily on your index, under Home. That sentence could easily be spread into a paragraph which would do more for you. Lastly, while it would be potentially time consuming yet worth while, you should include alt tags on all your pictures. With a site of this nature, keyword alt tags will build up and increase your overall keyword density by a bit. G'luck.
My first thought is "what is this site for and why do I want to be here". That's the question every reader asks the moment your site pops up. The object of your site is to have something, one thing, that draws their attention. The purpose of that object is to pass their attention to the next element. So on and so forth.
