I am a student doing BCA 2nd year. So far i have learned c++ ab visual basic and that too only the basics. I dont have much knowledge or experience in programming. I am now thinking to get into serious programming, so i decided to go for PHp apart my course subjects. For this, i went to purchase a good book. I am now thinking about choosing one from these. 1) Php 5.1 for beginners by ivan bayross and sharanam shah - This book is pretty much like black books containing plain language but in depth coverage of the topic and seems good for a quick reference. It got some extra intros to XMl and mysql. Everything is ok except the language. I didnt find it interesting. 2) Php for beginners from Head's first series - I didnt noticed the authors though, but the book has got the appeal. It was highly interactive and contains tons of pitures and scribbled notes around the text. The language seems to be really interesting and promises to bound me to the topic. But, it contain relatively lesser topics than the above book. So, what do you think i should but from these......
The best PHP book you can get is php.net. In all seriousness. It's brilliant. No book has anything over Google and php.net. And it's free.
I do agree with you, but the problem is i cant sit on the PC all the time.... I have already started learning from php.net , w3schools and thru some video tutorials. But i get a little time to access them as i have to attend my college regularly with 4 hrs of journey. So, i thought of having a book to read while in the college or in the metro. Also i am not going to print all those pages from the websites....
Aha okay. In that case, try "SAMS Teach yourself PHP in 24 days." I know some people that have read that and say it is very good. I don't know anything about the other books.
Even i was searching for a nice book on Php and now think my search is over !! I will start learning it ! - Digital -
i m also learning php without any book or ebook, php.net and w3schools give all solution and if i got any problem then go to google with problem and search there, and i will get solution within few minits. BTW Best of luck with your studies.
w3schools.com has some nice basic tutorials I used them and they are simple and easy to learn. If you want to get Apache/PHP/MySql installed in your PC manually try this tutorial. It has all screen prints so you can get it done fast and easy ! http://www.hasitha.info/installing-and-configuring-my-sql-5-with-php
If you just want to get started with PHP, Apache (tbh, Lighttpd is wayy better )and MySQL - use XAMPP.
Thanks guys for your replies... I have now got Php 5.1 for beginners by ivan bayross and sharanam shah
