    Hi Experienced DPs!

I need help in promoting my site - www.iamboredr.com

I'm having a traffic of 1k - 8k(on good days) but looking at my views on my media page, it's not that satisfying yet. I've seen other media sites with 2k views on each media and I'm really eager to know what's the "formula" to do so.

My site got to digg once and that's where it starts to pick up in traffic but now.. it just remain constant.

Stuff that I do to promote my site are:
    - submit to digg
    - submit to netscape
    - submit to stumbleupon.

    and that's about it.

What else can I do? I don't mind buying advertisement spots but I'm not sure which sites are worth it. (I know.. we can never really tell till we try!)

But, is there some other way I can promote my site efficiently? Please help me!

    Thanks in advanced!

And I'm not even selling you anything, either. :D

And thank you for thanking me.

Not many posters, or people in general thank one another.

    Good luck with it!

Submit more stuff to the sites you are already submitng to? Including MySapce???

    No? Yes?

I typed in "fun sites when you are bored" for ideas. Do the same.

You could see what the top sites under that keyword are doing, also.

    Davesdaily.com. They are inexpensive.

    Collegehumor.com. They ARE expensive!

    Sites like these???

I'm sorry to tell ya this, mendna, but in addition to my marketing and advertising article I pointed you to, like finding a good job, you have to get out there and pound the sidewalk.

But at least you can do it in your underwear.

    Shut the blinds, ok?

For ideas on anything, on or offline, what I do is take pen and paper, sit in a quite, dark room, and wait for ideas to come to me. When one does, I turn on the lamp, write it down, turn the lamp back off, and go back to thinking.

For more pages, and to keep your already existing visitors coming back, have you ever thought about accepting articles on a weekly basis on how to approach and date the opposite sex??? hint hint

Mendna, I'm bored, so I thought I'd take another look at your site.

    Bored, get it? Bored??? :p

Yeah, you aren't getting many clicks, are you?

I have a few suggestions. take 'em for what they are worth....

    1. The download time for my high speed was around 5 seconds. Triple that for dial ups. Oops!

I had one customer who I helped bring in more visitors, just from this one thing alone.

    2. Why is there a black background on the left and right? Your site should be open and inviting.

At least 75% of Internet users do not like dark backgrounds. Especially women!

Dark doesn't sell ads that well either. I saw the Google ads in that dark area. Man, take that out. Trust me on this.

Go look at DavesDaily.com. The whole look of his site is open and inviting.

Don't believe his "views" on the pictures section, though. :D

    3. I'm sorry, brother, but the stuff in your middle column is boring. I liked the paper art page, but that apple has to go. I liked it, but you want to show the cool "WOW!" ones first. Maybe put the man falling or the skelton in its place. No Diggs? I bet if you pushed the really cool ones, you'd get some.

    4. The tags and the sort by. Do you really need those? Could something cool be put in its place???

    5. You may want to consider taking out the views. Many won't click on something that doesn't seem popular. Or, make it up, like good ol' Dave on DavesDaily did.

By the way, look at his ads. Many of them are better than yours. Sorry.

Believe it or not, ads can add or take away a certain look to a page. That's why I don't like Google ads. Boooooring!

People don't get this. I helped my brother's friend jack his site up, and he didn't believe me. We put some realy cool, popualr ads in there, and he quickly changed his mind.

Whether they buy or not, it does add to the page in a good way!

    6. I always tell people to think outside the box. ALWAYS!

One way is to add a gruesome section to your site. Shocking pictures of, well, gruesome pictures.

People are drawn to them. They go ewwww, and want to log off, but most won't. Even the women. Many will turn their heads, and cuss you out, but they will go to the next picture.

Talk about getting some Diggs then!

    7. On each page, why aren't you telling them to save it? "LOL now this is funny! Put this in your favorites!"

I don't know, if I were to have a site on funny videos, pics and stories, I would have the layout totally different. I'd turn it into a tour. Call it something like: "Perry's Tour of the Insane, Funny, Gruesome, and Downright Stupid."

Then for that particular day, they click on a link to start the tour. They would see one picture, video, or story, one at a time, one click at a time, instead of everything on your homepage. On each page I would perk their curiosity to click to the next page. "Ya wanna see something incredibly stupid, check this one out..."

More pages are also good for more ads, and search engine food. Though I'm not a big fan of SEO for getting visitors.

On each page I would have a form right in front of their face where they can fill it out to send to friends. Like I have for my picture gallery. http://www.thelist.fm/Picture-Gallery.shtml

Underneath it have the Digg button. And PROMPT them to send it. Don't have JUST that button.

Then I would get them to save it to either favorites, as if I am talking to that person in, well, person.

    All three on each page!

Off to the right I would put my ads. But cool ads. Stuff people want to look at, like screen savers, cool t-shirts, emoticons....

    Screw those boring Google ads.

Sorry, to go on like this, but I love marketing!

See ya in the funny papers!
