Install Google Analytics, it's free. Get the code and paste it on your site.
If you are using Wordpress, you can install plugins such as Wassup to check your stats.
If you want to check for links, etc. you can use 'open site explorer'

Use Google analytics or statcounter. They are the best two free traffic analytic tools.

Use Google Analytics for stats from this point on.

If you need past stats then it's possible to use your server logs. Install something like AWStats or WebStat, these collate your server logs into pretty graphs and useful figures.
