Hey i am going to school for game art design and was wondering what type of computer would be best for me?

    I got $2000.00 + a $500.00 on a gift card for futureshop....

Is there any laptop that could handle this type of work as a laptop is my preffered choice. However, i am not sure is a lap top will be able to handle 3d graphics very well (i dont have any experiance with 3d graphics). Also would you recomend a mac or PC?

One of the main programs i will be using is maya, if that helps..

Please recomend somthing to me :)

    thankyou

Acer has some really good laptops. :)
I have an Aspire 5630 and it can handle more than my HP laptop.. not familiar with 3d on this computer but it can handle many different programs at the same time without problem.

If you're using Maya, you'll want one hell of a 3D card.
Go for a PC laptop with the highest spec graphics card in your budget. Then throw some more RAM at it.

Unless you have a crap load of money to burn, then don't bother with Macs. You'll get way more bang for your buck with a PC laptop.

Get a mac. I think you can run Windows + Linux on Macs now.

    It's a win win situation.

If you decide to go the PC route be sure and explore your operating system options. I just upgraded to a new PC(Old XP finally crashed). The biggest problem was although I had everything working fine on my old XP. a lot of programs quit working when I tried to use them on the new Vista system.

Be sure and do a search for compatibilty issues if you decide to go with a PC system running Vista.

Although people are finding work-arounds for a lot of the problems, it has really been a headache.

The one bright spot has been that most of my graphics programs work really great on Vista.

The biggest negative being audio programs(recording) which worked on XP may not work on Vista.

If you go for PC I suggest you to look more the right features rather than a brand. In my opinion it is totally unimportant what name on computer is as long as delivers right features and performance.
