hi Frnds, I read about Guest books which is one way to get comments about your website and also would let you know wat category of visitors you are getting. i just want to know more about it. like how to make guest books? is it useful for SEO works, Which programing language is required? automatic guest book site are available but is it good to use those websites or should build on our own. please help. All your answer is appreciated.
Namrata, You don't need to program a guestbook from scratch. If you're using WordPress on your site, there are plugins available that can convert any page into a guestbook page. If you're using an HTML site, try to do a search for scripts at hotscripts.com and sourceforge.net. There are a number of scripts available that will help you create and manage your guestbook easily. Regards, Sagar
^yeah, I don't see the value in guestbooks in 2009. Now, maybe if this were 2000 that would be a different scenario...
Yes guestbooks are quite old technology. Part of the reason they got phased out is that it became easy prey for spammers. They just had to find a website that auto-approved guestbook comments, then they would fill the pages with the spammiest links imagineable. The guestbooks ended up doing more harm for those websites than good. For one, all of those spammy links would have a detrimental effect on search engine rankings. Secondly, if your visitors see how spammy the guestbook is, it leaves a bad impression. If you want feedback on your website, there are various places you can get your website reviewed, including the DP forums. To get more information about your visitors, you could install stat tracking software such as Google Analytics. Another option is to create a simple survey on your website to get answers to any questions you may have about your visitors.
I put together a video on youtube about guestbook commenting. Truth is installing guestbooks in 2009 is "old hat". It's something that is very 10 years ago. HOWEVER... Sites that are 10+ years old had not yet invented "NoFollow". Sites that are 10+ years old have trust & authority. Great places to get links for those guestbooks that support * BBCode * HTML or just let you put in your 'Home page' or your 'web page' and a title or even no title. Not every link has to be sculpted anchor text either. They all add up. Dan
