My experience of the weight loss niche is very good. I sell a wide variety of therapeutic hypnosis audio sessions, and sell as many of the weight loss sessions as the rest put together. The weight loss niche is HUGE. This is because these days a large and growing percentage of people are overweight. Weight loss products appeal to both those who want to look better, and those who want to be healthier. It covers beauty and health. Of course a lucrative niche like this attracts more competition, so target those longer tailed key phrases in your SEO. You will not rank number one for the term "weight loss"!
"Weight loss" is a very saturated niche and may be hard to find keywords that you can dominate with. If you work hard at working with a few good keywords and rank high with those, you will do pretty good in this market. If not, you won't make a penny.
i agree with theduke2011, i have tried this niche before and found it hard to get off the ground. go even deeper and you may do ok...
