My advice would be to stick to SEO best practices with regard to your site's architecture, internal linking and content.

Analyse all the sites appearing prominently in the Google SERPs and ask yourself what is your site's USP in contrast with those at the top? Can this be promoted / attract attention / links.

Introduce some attractive, link-worth content and publicise through blogs / forums / social media.

Personally I wouldn't bother with XRumer as, in my experience, the links gained (if any) are worth next to nothing. You would do better to thoroughly analyse the backlink profiles of all the sites at the top of the SERPs and take steps to match their most powerful backlink sources. Quality counts a lot more than quantity.

Finally - don't give up. Keep at it. Do a little every day. Experiment with your content / key page elements and backlink anchors. Try to rank well for more specific, but related long tail phrases and from there move on to the more generic phrases.

    Good Luck :)

I use http://www.commenthunt.com/ to find a related blog with high PR and write a useful comment on that (don't spam).

Just focus on pages that have more than 2 PR and have do-follow links.
