Help me figure out MSN

When MSN's search was in beta testing, my rankings were great. When they went live, my rankings were still great. (great meaning I was happy with them).

For the past couple months, however, traffic from MSN just keeps dwindling, while traffic from google and yahoo increases almost daily. Overall, traffic is fine at my site, but it would be much better if I could get better established at MSN.

I guess what I dont understand is how I used to rank highest at MSN, compated to the other to big Search Engines, Yahoo was second, and Google was a distant third. Now things have basically reversed themselves, and the only thing I have done is add more content to my site.

Has anyone elsed notice unfavorable changes at MSN? For what it's worth, the same thing was happening to me at yahoo for a while (month or two), then suddenly, I started getting hammered with yahoo spiders and my rankings drastically increased there. Is it just a matter of waiting on MSN to do a heavy indexing of my site again?

the co-op ads can do wonders in msn, so im guessing that backlinks with same anchor (targetted keyword) and some on-page SEO would get you ranked pretty high.

MSN............ on-page works but not as well as links.

I'm glad we helped you figure out this complex search engine. :)

I have to agree with smindsrt on this one.

I have several sites ranked first position on MSN and it is primarily due to links. :)

OK....... well I took a closer look and I also looked at the Google allinanchor for which you are like # 21 for "Fantasy Football"

Me thinks you need some more links with that in the anchor. :)

    Good Luck!

Yes, he's doing good too. I think this is his 2nd week with adsense and he's pulling in $3-$8 per day. Not a bad start. :)

That is both encouraging and depressing at the same time. Just don't tell us he is 7 years old :(

No, he's a bit older. The cool thing is we started a site on what he likes. There isn't tons of compedtition but there is some. The click amounts are really good........ better than what we thought. :)

I have a site that is ranking very well in MSN without using co-op. MSN likes links and also likes onpage optimization.

Man. I wish I would have had search when I was a kid. $3-$8 a day? That is some nice cash especially if it grows. Congratulations!

I have quite a few sites ranking from #1 to #3 for several phrases. They do get a bit of traffic and, the CTR rates are better than through G. I understand from a couple of articles I've read lately that is a rather common thing (M better at conversion to sales than G by %). :)

Whilst we can generalise the typical MSN/Google/Yahoo user, the point is G sends a ton more traffic then the rest put together, due to the much higher traffic levels mathematics would tell us its harder to maintain a certain percentage level for conversions. At least I think thats right? :) heh

About a year ago when my company was spending large on M and G, we saw our conversion on M twice that of G. Of course two things: 1) G sent a LOT more traffic on the same words, and 2) the people at MSN were VERY difficult to deal with (which was actually good for us as it made it difficult for our competitors to get in).
