I would suggest xenforo but development has all but died, so I'd suggest vBulletin.

I voted for myBB because easy to use admin control panel, more free themes available, it has more features, it has many seo plugins and the last it's free (open source)

    VBulletin.

We have used it since version 2, prior to that we used Infopop's Ultimate BB. Currently using 4.2.0 as of a few weeks ago, we are a large forum and dont upgrade versions just because something new comes out. We wait sometimes several years until all bugs and issues are ironed out. Support/addons from vbulletin.org is brilliant.

If you are really serious about building a long term forum, VBulletin is all you would be using. Everything else has not been around long enough

Trying to compare a Fiat 500 and a BMW M5 is quite hard, just saying that trying to compare paid stuff and free stuff is something pretty useless. Anyway, there is no need to ask what we do prefer as we will all have a different opinion on those softwares, only you can decide what fits your needs and that goes with what are you ready to spend to develop your forum.

    XenForo. Period.

Also what about Burning Board? Its very cheap ($89.99) and its a great forum software.

This thread is a bit old but currently xenforo is killing everything. I had to migrate something from phpbb to xenforo a month ago and its freaking awesome. I literally hammered on stuff for a week and half and I ran across one tiny bug that took about 5 minutes to fix and I was bolting new stuff onto it non stop.

Its clean, very intuitive and screaming fast. I frankly have no clue what is going on with VB but pfft..

    Hey there,

I'd say XenForo. I've used most of those except Vanilla and pubBB and prefer XenForo, with IP Board being a close second.

I noticed this thread was older, would the % for Xenforo be much higher now its close to 50/50 in the results. I am with VB and ready to switch due to search engine issues alone!

punbb is the platform for setup as free ad-ons are available to add features to the site.
