The site is still in a rough stage but it will be complete in about 3 days.

Here are the following features of my site:
    - Forums/Blogs with detailed member profiles (similar to myspace, facebook but not as detailed/customizable)
    - "Funny/Weird Videos from around the net" where I will be posting videos from various sites
    - Arcade with 300+ games
    - Comics (it is a plugin that feeds various comics from comics.com)
    - Horoscopes (feeds daily horoscopes from a site)
    - Sports Ticker (Pro and College)
    - Chatroom
    - Send an email or text message directly from a form on our site
    - Proxy list, updated weekly
    - File and Image hosting
    - Some of the above features are only accessible by members. But registration is 100% free

I am confused as to what keywords to attempt to rank for in search engines.

whats your site about? you clearly wont have all these apps loading on the same page, so just target the keywords to individual pages, you dont want to have 20 keywords on your index page. go through each page one at a time, eg

    main page
    http://www.yoursite.com
keywords - keyword, keywords, online keyword

    arcade
    http://www.yoursite.com/arcade.html
keywords - arcade, online games, play games online, free java games

    and so on

Thanks. My CMS has a feature to add keywords to individual pages. I will do that. Rep :)
My site will probably be browsed at lot from people at school and work I guess.

I was wondering what should I do when I submit my site to Google, Yahoo, directories, etc.

    GOOGLE SUBMISSION EXAMPLE
    URL: MySite.net
    Comments/Keywords/Phrases: ? (what should I ender here?) ?

ok, when it comes to directory submission, you want to have your list of directories sorted by pr & alexa rank
then when it comes to the big guns like dmoz and yahoo, just be as descriptive as possible and keep within their guidelines.
another thing is that most directories only accept your top level domain name, very few will accept deep links eg http://www.yoursite/arcade/pokergame.swf

dmoz will accept deep links but only if they are good pages

as for the other 7 million directory sites just submit to as many as you can using different strings of ancor text

    eg 100 submissions of
http://www.yoursite.com - all the best free online games and more

    then
    100 submissions of
http://www.yoursite.com - {sitename.com} online java games, free discussion forum

    and so on

next you need to start linking to deep pages, using the same mathod as above.

it is very important that you dont have 5000 links to your site and they all link to the home page. this is because it looks spammy to search engines.

try to have 60% of your links to your homepage and then spread the rest of your links out among the other pages, eg spend a day promoting your forum page, then a day on your arcade and so on.

    i hope this helps

Make sure you do a complete analysis of your competitors and look for those keywords they are using for themselves.
