    What'll you do if your forum is big enough to be noticable by Big Brother, and they do a WHOIS on your site to trace who you are to bust you?

    My friend used to run a popular streaming video site (TV shows, anime, movies, etc). He didn't host any of the videos, they were all hosted by YouTube, Google, DailyMotion, MySpace, etc. He ended up getting sued by, I think, the MPAA and losing. I forget how much he owes, but I know he told me he pays a couple grand a month.

    Well now you have told the whole world your idea there will prob be a couple popping up around you, id also buy them domains if they havent already been snapped up by someone trying to make money out of you. Should never share idea's in an open forum incase they can be big

    You actually have more competition than you think when it comes to marijuana forums. For example, GrassCity and TokeCity are highly active marijuana forums.

    I don't think where it is hosted is really going to matter. It isn't illegal to own such a site and they can't bust you for anything unless you are actually doing something that violates a law.

    About 8 months ago, I had the same idea than you.

    Create a forum for high people to come hang out and argue about marijuana and other random things..., I had, like you not saw much forums on this. In fact, there are somes, a lot of small forums and one big forum that I discovered afterward :http://forum.grasscity.com/

    What is fun in this story is that, I registered my site www.stonedcity.com in oct and discovered grasscity about two months later...

    Then, it wasnt enouph popular, and there was not a lot of content.

    So I decided to make a warez site + a stoned section.

    The first month, the warez generated 100K unique visits...

    If you dont violate the laws where your site is hosted, you are not illegal.

    See www.thepiratebay.org, they have funny letters they wrote back to some DMCA notices...

    That's not wares, and I highly doubt that, if he told them the video's were hosted by YouTube then they can't do anything unless he mirrored them.
