Help making product pages more unique

    Hi!

I have a page that has a lot of products, the problem is that google thinks all these products are duplicated so they are getting de-indexed.

The products are "unique". We write our own descriptions for them. The problem is that these are small, sometimes just 3-4 words. I'm trying to make these texts longer, but can't really make them so long without it looking wierd. The more important products might have 10-20 words, which maybe I can make to 20-30 words. Then there's also price, category that's different. But not much.

My title on every page is the product text (or part of it), description is product text + one static sentence added to all pages. (is that bad?). H1-tag is the product text.

I'm trying to make the product pages more unique so google will not de-index them. I will add random related products with their texts, making at least some pages more unique, but if two pages get the same related products, the pages will look even more similair! The related products text also dillutes (sp?) the keywords for the actual product, but I doubt that's a big problem.

Any thoughts on this? What can I do to make the product pages more unique?

edit: the pages also have different pictures if that helps any.

why dont you try writing short reviews of each product instead of small descriptions. this can get our word count up.

    Hi, thanks for your reply!

The problem is that it's an auction site for antique furniture, art etc. So the item is just sold once making a review of the item kinda wierd.

Are the images unique or duplicate as well? Open them in Photoshop and save them again.
This way you will have the same images but they will be now unique for Google (different file hash ;) )

If it were me I would focus more on good seo for your homepage and category pages. If each auction is short lived it may not even get a chance to get any search engine rankings.

    Hi!

The images are unique, but have similair filenames (just hashed, i.e. IMG20318418413.jpg). I am thinking of renaming the file names to the product title with an image-id added in the end, would this help?

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try to optimize my categories-pages. The problem is that there are such a wide variety of products.

The most important thing for me is that when people search, they can find an old auction. This hopefully makes them look at current auctions or at least know that I exist :)

There is no way you can add more text? Even if you thought real hard. Text sure can help.

You could also try getting back links to the deeper pages. One way is if you have an rss feed. Plenty of places on the net, like rss directories where you can submit the feed, will bring some deep link backs.

Also a umber of social sites have were you can plug in your rss feed, like mybloglog for example. Even blogger has a rss widget.

Just some thoughts on getting some link backs that could help your pages "stick".

It's a better idea to name them properly. IMG20318418413.jpg means nothing to Google ;)

I handled auction site for 10 months and haven't experienced anything like this. Does your Images has alt text ? And if the item was sold do you still promote the said item?

    Hi,

do you have any good tips for me? :) What should the alt-text be for the images? Can all of them have the product text as alt-text or should it be more descriptive/unique ?

I do not promote it, but it still stays on the website. So you can access it by going to "old auctions" or similair. So it's "further away" from the start page.
