I have a major question: Lets say that my main sales page is set up for the terms Bottled Water Cheap Bottled Water Clear Bottled Water But I also realize that many people search for "Clear Pure bottled water". To me, Clear Pure Bottled Water is a "longtail" keyword phrase. Do I make a seperate page for Clear Pure Bottled Water? or do I simply put "clear" into my main page's text? And if I DO put it on the main page, do I do this with all other long tail terms? ??? Lets say I have another term that is: 100% Clean H20 Since that term doesn't share any of the same words, is it probably a better idea to make a subpage for that ? --- I have a site that was ranking near #1 for some core terms, but its lost some of its rankings and is now near the bottom of page 1. I do have about 50 subpages that often share some of my main page's terms -- they are anchored with long tail keywords that branch off of my main terms. Could I be getting penalized for using too many keywords as anchors at the bottom of my page??
It is possible to over use keywords. WHat is your keyword density? How many keywords or phrases are you currently trying to target?
I'd say use your longtails in a slightly different way than you use your main keywords. Use them in titles and minor headings, and make sure that they feature a few times in your text (to a non-spammy density)
I think it'd be a bad idea to create an entirely seperate page unless you don't really care about site structure and usuability. Generally for most people, including the longtails in the body text should help, but don't do if it ruins the flow of the text. The best way to optimise one page for multiple terms is to have a couple of backlinks pointing to the page with the exact longtail as the anchor text.
