I was wondering if someone out there can help me move my store and setup a redirect from my current domain to the new domain. I just stared to receive some traffic before suddenly being deindexed by google. I am still get traffic through msn, yahoo, all the web, and altavista. I would hate to lose that traffic while google takes their time indexing my new site. Plus I have articles pointing back to my site also and going in and changing them would take a while.

If anyone can help please PM me with the cost and how long you think it would take
    Thanks lavmljl

Make a file in your main folder (usually named public_html if your webhost gives you direct FTP access like that) on your old website and name it: .htaccess

In this file, put the following line, making the appropriate edit:
    Redirect permanent / http://www.your-new-site.com/

This will, of course, redirect something like old-site.com/folder/page.html to your-new-site.com/folder/page.html

You could also just set your old domain to redirect to your new domain through your domain name provider.

As for moving your site, well, I guess it'd be easier to download a full home backup file and have your new host use it on your new site. Or just download all the files yourself and reupload them and export your database (if you have one) and import it on the new site. You'd then, of course, have to go through all needed files and edit the domain name in them, if you have it hard-coded into any links. This is why it's best to use a global variable when printing out links in files, so that you can easily change the base URL later.
