I really dont want to pay for this service as I think it is to exspensive and cant afford it.

My site has completely NO SEO as far as I am aware, so could someone tell me what would be the first thing to do?

    Thanks

Start from onsite optimization - that means content. If you can build search engine friendly URLs that'll be good also.

Further start building links - quality related links. If your site is unique then most of the people will like to give you links. Write some articles and submit them to the article directories - building one way links.

    Etc, etc.

    Good luck.

    1. first add meta tag and title relevant to your website.
    2. optimize your website low competitive keywords. place your keywords on <h1> and <h2> tag
    3. avoid hiddent text and other such strategy.
    4. exchange links with relevant websites. (this is off page optimization and is very important)

I would make sure each page's title is in order. Make sure it is relevant to the content on each page and is optimized for what people are searching for on that subject.

The onpage stuff (if you understand what that is) is a good place to go as well. But, more importantly is building some relevant links in to your site and content pages. As Jaguar said, read articles on this topic...there are tons on this forum. Spend time reading, take a look at your situation and ask questions if you have them.

Do search engines prefer a site with more pages over a site less pages (assuming everything is the same: keyword density, # of links, meta tags, etc)?

Ok, I have done some directory submissions. It is a bit hard to write content as m website is a paid posting service, so I am not really going to have articles on my site am i? or something that conent wise.

One thing I will do is make sure all the pages are titled properly, with meta tags also.

on-page SEO is something that you should consider when creating your site - if you have not, then the sooner you make changes to your internat site structure the better.

If you cannot pay, then the best thing you can do is to read up on seo Articles and learn the basics. Now, when reading up, do not rely on 1 source - read from many sources and create a list of the things that worked for you from all the sources.

Identify the purpose of creating your site, if you haven't figured out. From this you can also identify your target audience and check what your site can offer them or what they possibly look for that your site can provide.

Then you can pick the keywords that are possible queries these visitors use. Optimize each of your pages based on these keywords and do some copywriting so that your page contains some of these keywords (albeit not too literally).

Provide some ranking and traffic measurement tools. Check what pages are most visited, most accessed or most linked .. from here you can fine tune your pages so that you can probably figure out how to make non-performing pages do well..

You can repeat the optimize-implement-measure cycle as often as you want, keeping in mind what benefits your visitors enjoy accessing and providing it to them.
