HELP! i really want this name, but...

the domains is nothing special... just a domain with one keyword and the other is crap...

on this forum the domain would proably sell for around $25-$30

right now the domain is registered and its not parked... it has a one page crappy site about cursors not monetized at all...

the domain gets no traffic

so anyway, i looked at the whois and sent an email to the registered owner asking if he would sell for appx 60

no response...

i would be willing to pay more... what should i do?

 

All you can do is try again at some point. Make sure the contact information is correct, too.

 

you can call the owner. unfortunately the info in the WHOIS is very often outdated...

 

Call. It show's your serious.

If the whois info is outdated, you can contact ICANN as if they can't get in touch with the owner, they will take away the name I believe.

 

If you want the domain name badly and the current owner discovers that, you may have to pay a much higher price to get it. I'd personally look for other options available for registration.

 

I have had people call me about buying my domains. No big deal as long as they are not scammers.

 

That don't sound like you want this particular domain that bad then. I would find something better that has the keyword you seek. I am sure something would be available using the same keyword.

Also! The last thing you want to do is tell the owner:

"the domain name is not that good".

Um, if it wasn't...you wouldn't want it!

I have received these kind of inquiries in the past for my names and it's the ultimate TURN OFF and shows me the person is not a serious buyer (whether they really are or not).

 

Good point. I've had this experience in the past, too. People coming to ask for a website that I was selling and their telling me "the site doesn't have much content on it" or "I don't like this" just to drive the price down was definitely turning me off.

 

I hate to jump in with a 'Me, too' post, but "Me, too."

Just tell them you are calling about the domain name, and ask if it is for sale. They almost never have a 'selling price' in mind, so tell them what you want to offer (starting price). Then, negotiate as normal.

If they want to drive up the price too much, let it sit with your best offer on the table (unless you want the domain very badly). Let them know that your offer is good for 30 days. Then, forget about it and move on. If they call or email, cool. If not, move on.

Wish you luck , but I think then you're calling someone for a domain I think that he'll understand that you really like that name so probably he'll give ya much higher price when it really worth

 

If you talk to him stay firm on your price, if he says hes not interested then tell him if he changes his mind to call you back. Trust me it will convince him. I bought a domain today from a guy who wanted 500, I low balled it at 250 and he sold it right away. Sometimes people just need to think about it, and accept what someone offers.

 

Good luck. Netstorm is right. Don't get all giggly about the whole thing. Stay with your offer. He/she will realize that it is easy money and call you back eventually.

 

Instead of offering $60 think about how much you'd be willing to spend. Look at marketplaces such as Sedo and Afternic to get an idea of "retail" prices. Then consider offering more than $60, but less than what you are willing to pay.

Another option would be to use Sedo as a "buyer's broker." They will contact the domain owner on your behalf for a cut (but maybe not for $60).
