Thanks, I was thinking more like websites that could or are linking back, I have found loads of .edu but how to get my link in there, I think that should be the question.

Leave a comment on do-follow .edu or .gov blogs and you'll get the link from them.

But why is it exactly that you want links from these sites? Is it because they supposedly count for more?

Google has specifically said that .gov and .edu links aren't worth anymore then a regular link. The only reason why they are regarded more highly is because usually .edu and .gov sites have a good PR on them. If I remembered where I saw the article I would post a link, but Matt Cutts commented on this whole topic before due to all the confusion and hype surrounding edu and gov links and he said they aren't looked at any differently.

It's difficult (but not impossible) to find dofollow edu and gov blogs from which you can get backlinks. But at any rate, I would advise against trying. I have paid assistants 100s of dollars to get me backlinks from such sources, and now my blog does indeed have 100 of backlinks, many of which are from gov and edu sites. But guess what? My blog PR and SERP ranking still sucks.

Do you think it's difficult for Google to create an algorithm which is capable of figuring out self-pointing links? It's not difficult. Google knows that you're linking to yourself from other people's blogs and websites. It doesn't matter if the link is no or do followed.

A better link building strategy is to create good content and then go to blog owners and ask them their opinion about your content and have them link to it. If your content is relevant and interesting enough, they'll be more than happy to link back to you and they won't ask for anything in return. I know because it worked for me.

No problem. I used to think the same thing too but then I saw that article by Matt Cutts I started not worrying about whether its .gov, .edu, .com or whatever. If it's a good PR link then it's a good PR link.

Have you considered a tool such as scrapebox or market samurai?
Regardless they do not carry the weight they once did and it is nice if they are dofollow links.

Not true. That's just what Google wants you to think ;] There's is absolutely NO WAY they could know who posted what link on what website.

.edu links don't pass any special attributes as a regular .com
