Hey Friends, So I'm on my laptop at the moment, and I need to transfer a bunch of large files from here (laptop) to my PC. I'm not exactly sure how to do this, I have a spare Hub as well as a Router, so without internet, would I be able to set up a LAN connection? Would that actually work, in terms of sharing files between computers, without internet access? Not sure how to set up a LAN connection, so if anyone has any insight, please let me know. Thanks.
Plug both computers into your router with ethernet cables. Assuming you're on Windows, enable "File and printer sharing", then drag and drop your files to a shared folder. You might have to reboot to get the computers to see each other. http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windowsfilesharing/ht/enable_disable.htm
Yeah! you can use any external device to backup your files... For more extensive data you can go for Good Storage Device
Create a new connection if you cant see the Network Connections this is if you're using the hub. but usually your router have four ports so you just need to plug those cat5 to the router and eventually they'll meet. just create a shared folder to transfer the files.
using laplink and NC programm --- > very fast dos transfer but both must have NC program the laplink is just a connection btween printer plugin
Also check your firewall settings if using zonealarm. With the free ed. it is still quirky when using the 'trusted zone'.
you can do it... i tried it a long before. use a Ethernet cord to connect both the computers thats it. just ping in cmd prompt to verify whether its connected or not. use a software name "ipmessenger" its a free ware no need of installations portable version also available. open ipmessenger in both the system if your LAN is established you can transfer your files by just drag n drop.Transfer speed also very good. give it a try
