Post some "real" content on your site instead of just a sales pitch. Where are the articles, reviews, interviews, news and information on current art trends, where is the history section,,,, the list goes on and one.

One thing to consider is a wiki section where you can have articles on famous painters, history information,,,,,.

Establish your site as an authority in your field and go from there.

Yeah, you definitely need to work on SEO.

Put up content that will target consumers who are willing to buy pricey art, work on getting backlinks with that content, and maybe send emails to art curators or others in the art field and ask if they'll link to you.

If you are really getting enough visitors, you should focus on how your website communicates. I am not the right person to tell you exactly what to do. You know your market better than I do.

However, don't rely solely on your opinion. You just have to try what people want to see on your website to buy from you. I suggest you start using Google Website Optimizer to do different kinds of tests on your website.

And remember your site is never finished. There is always room for improvement.

ok, does the site need a new design before I add content. what content management solutions would you suggest? I currently use vstore, and am thinking of migrating to a zencart or some other custom situation.

Dude, if anything you should focus on your content and articles first. That way while you're designing your site, it'll be in progress for the search engines to pick up.

I like to say another thing. Your website is ranked at: 23,308,770 as of writing. You talked about how you're getting targeted visitors, I don't think you have any visitors at all. I use plainly simple alexa.com.

Content and user friendly layout is a definite.

people who spend hundreds of dollars on art don't do so purely for aesthetic appeal; there is a sense of "culture" and social status that a piece of artwork brings into a room. and unless an expensive piece of art is coupled with some credibility (ie: the name of the artist that created it! duh), no one is going to drop $1000 on a canvas with paint splattered on it.
