I’ve faced a small challenge and I hope you can suggest a solution. My client has a brand, but the domain name for this brand was purchased by some unknown company. Could someone advice me how can I find out this site owners’ contact information, so I can offer them to sale the domain? Maybe there are some agencies (brokers) specialized on such services? Or maybe someone is ready to help me to solve this problem for appropriate reward?
Any WHOIS site will give you owner details. The most popular one is www.whois.sc The newest and least popular is the one in my sig.
they probably wont sell the domain to you but thats just my experiences, have your client register there company, and trademark the name if you want the domain that bad!
If the person who owns the domain did so before you registered a trademark, or registered the name, etc...they are entitled to use the name. (Basically if they existed first, it's theirs) As stated, do a whois, just keep in mind unless the site is on a "Parked" page, it's unlikely that they will want to sell their web presence, if it is a parked page, be prepared to spend a small fortune for it.
Make sure your client has rights over the domain before pursuing a dispute. If they are entitled, through trademark or patents then its good idea to seek leagal advice. To find out there info, do a whois lookup. If the registration details are private then contact the registrar of the domain and they can forward the relevant info. Do it right else you end up like Nissan Motor Corp trying to get www.nissan.com
Thank you for your comments. My client had registered its trade mark long before the domain name was bought. Whois shows the company info (see below). Maybe some of you dealt with them. Technical Contact: Service, Whois Suite 5, Garden City Plaza Mountainview Boulevard City of Belmopan, Not Applicable 0000 BZ 3472822181 They do not response to my phone calls and letters. So we even can’t offer them to sale the domain. Maybe some of you know some specialized agencies (brokers) who can solve this problem.
If they don't respond to your emails, phone calls or letters then you have your answer. They don't want to sell or you are not offering enough.
