i used godady.com website tonight to create a webpage. i published the page and the page endings were .html. a few weeks later I made changes to the website and republished and now all files are now .php. when i do a general google search, the old .html page is coming up and when you click on the link, its giving error 404 Page Can Not Be Found code. ANY ideas how i can fix this? godaddy said its all part of when googled crawled my site. Is this true? I was hoping to fix the problem sooner than waiting on google to recrawl my website. Thanks!

Hi ... I have the same problem, exactly, and for several months. G won't let go of about 1800 pages ending in htm. These pages show as "Not Found." I guess, as each one was removed from the site. G finds htm and new page versions in its twice-weekly crawl. I asked around, a few months back. The recurring answer was that, over time, G would drop the htm pages from the "Not Found" list. I couldn't hasten G, obviously. It wasn't hurting my site. I must live with it; patience. Hope this helps. dgp

You should do a redirect from the old domain to the new domain. This should be a 301 redirect and will tell the Search engine that now the new address of the site is axample.php.

Just rebuild your sitemap and resubmit to google webmasters. If you dont have google webmasters then signup for a free account and install it. Your search rankings will then update within a week or so. To speed up the process of indexing the new URLs, build some backlinks to the new URLs.
