HELP! Google Adwords Campaign is failing miserably

    Hey guys

I specialize in SEO but also do other internet marketing for my clients, which are all local businesses. Some of them I do Google Adwords campaigns for...

I have one client who is a cesspool service, however he has more than 1 company, and thus, more than 1 website...

I currently have 2 Adwords campaigns set up for him - 1 for each of the 2 websites. Both websites are very well optimized and a lot alike. So I know it's not a landing page issue...

1 of the campaigns is performing well and my ads pretty much always show up for my keywords. However the other one, is failing miserably. I am doing this campaign for free for my client until it picks up, because I don't believe in taking money from someone and not getting them results, so in the meantime I am working on it constantly and earning nothing. But I just wouldn't feel right charging him for it until it's doing well. Because I am pretty shocked at how little the exposure is and I have no idea why.

What confuses me is, the campaigns are basically both the same. They have different ad copy and slightly different keywords, however they're both for the same type of business and so it's all relatively similar.

I am even bidding much higher on keywords for the failing campaign in hopes of getting it up, but nothing seems to be working. I'm at a loss.

    Here's my main question....

Is this because of something to do with Google's terms or regulations about having 2-alike businesses within 1 adwords account? Meaning, are they choosing to show 1 campaign in their search results but not the other? Or something like that?

However I have no idea why I can't get this frickin campaign to rank and get some clicks!

It's incredibly frustrating, and I am hoping that someone can help and tell me if maybe there's something I am missing.

ANY help would be extremely appreciated! Thank you so much in advance

    - Joe

I would never use one adwords account for targeting same keywords for different websites, it will never work, it has to be 2 different adwords accounts.

    Jo Joe,

First, do not target two website for same keywords. Google will show your ads only for 1 website/keywords which will compete against your other website(keywords) and increase your CPC.
I will suggest you to target difference audience with these 2 websites Like use one for search and other for display or you can target different location or even you can schedule them at different time so that they do not compete with each other.

To find the reason of your problem, you can do keywords diagnosis and see if they are running or not.

Also, note that for exact same campaign, keywords, 2 website can have different performance due to different quality scores.
There might be many other factors for poor performance of 2nd site.

Galactus has provided some very good information. For every search query there can only be 1 ad from any 1 AdWords account, and there can be only one ad for any 1 domain. Remember, the quality score you see listed for each keyword is only an aggregate score and Google provides a quality score for each search query in regards to your keywords. There is also a quality score for each ad, ad group, campaign, and account which is not available to be seen. It sounds like you are competing with yourself and the losing ads are having their quality score reduced with each losing auction which has a snowball effect for that ad. I feel the advice given earlier is very sound. Target different areas, different keywords, different times, or different networks to prevent internal competion.

The reason to this is that both websites are competing within the same AdWords account, having similar ads and keywords. I would create another account for the second website or choose different keywords. To check how your keywords perform you can see in keyword diagnosis tool.
    Best of luck
