My tech website, pcfastlane.com, is starting to grow it seems. Last month, I had an average of 154 unique visitors a day. In the next month or two, I would like to get this number up to 500. What are some good ways to get my traffic up? I know the basics, but I'm asking because I have an established website versus a new website with no visitors.
1. Do something newsworthy (like offer a new service, something new for free, etc.), then write a press release and manually submit it to blogs, and online and offline media outlets who might be interested. One or two great plugs in the media can increase traffic dramatically. If it works, keep making yourself newsworthy. 2. If you offer a product, write a pitch letter and send it to media outlets or bloggers as well. See if you can get them to review it for you, or write about it. 3 .Depending on the niche you're in, writing letters to the editor in your local (or nearest metropolitan area's) newspaper, or op-ed pieces, can be effective, because you can end it with a brief segment on who you are, and include your url. Works best with online publications if you want live links obviously. 4. Give regular visitors a reason to come back more often. Offer something that will change daily, from a tip on your niche, to a cartoon if you can draw... be creative and try to think of something in your niche that's not being overdone yet. That's just what comes to mind. I'm sure others have plenty of other ideas. Jenn
Awesome advice above! Here is one more: develop a 10 to 12 page PowerPoint report on your subject, including some valuable (or cntroversial) information. DO NOT put affiliate links in it. PDF it and offer up on your site. send it to blogs and the appropriate media as well as the newsgroups and forums as appropriate. Waptap
Forum posting is a good one. Post in a forum with a link in your signature. Remember to do it respectively though following the forums rules and make sure you don't create a topic with your link in or reply with it in unless you truly think it is appropriate situation. Unless there is an advertising board, then it is ok to add your link and describe what your site has to offer. Link exchanges are another good idea. Pretty simple just have some sites that are relevant link to you and in return you link back to them. Also Jenn had some very good advice. Good luck to you ~John
Whenever you have a new article up on your site submit it to digg.com and reddit.com. Even if you don't get to the homepage you will probably get a few hundred more visits each day. Good luck with your site!
Digg.com was great advice. My articles are going be listed there for now on. It looks like they recently reached PR7.
