Seems like a popular topic lately. I just mentioned that autotwbob works for me as of today. It's a desktop software that will automatic do twitter tasks. It runs on a timer, so every time the timer reach zero it will follow a new targeted user, follow back your new followers, send direct messages, etc... Then it results and restarts the process. Slow at first, though I laeve it run all day and night long and after a few days you see results and actual human followers. Because I don't get a thousand followers at once, I can easily interact with my new daily followers create a quick relationship. When I respond manually to new users they usually they respond back and that's when you can interact to have them see your website. So for me AutoTWBot is very effective, I don't have to do the administrative stuff, just interact with new followers. The tool even sends out my tweets automatically, I set them at the beginning of the week and let it post them all week long. Never the less to answer your question there are working twitter bots. what the point to get followers who really follow you just in return. It means they never will read your tweets. And after 10 tweets they will un-follow you. Waste of time.
