I was ranking #2 and #3 and sometimes #1 for my main core term and now I have suddenly fallen OUT completely.

Someone who links to me also fell out a few days back

What the heck is going on and how can I fix this?

Could it be that good has banned your website or something?

You can maintain the unique content and quality back links, then your SERP's fixed it.

If you didn't do something "stupid" it should be a temporary issue - just wait a few days and observe.

If the people who link to you and that you link to are also falling out of the syk then you have been linking to bad neighborhoods in the web. Sounds like you got mixed up in some shady stuff that google didn't appreciate. Spamming google can bring god results but remember that these are almost always temporary. Once google catches you're out of there.

It could also be a temp issue like monfis said. Sometimes things get jumbled up for a couple of days and then return to normal.

I dont think I've done anyhting stupid

But I am wondering if that guy who links to me is in a bad neighborhood

I have 53 back links for this key term that I lost ranking from

Some of my comp have like 74 links TOTAL and rank in the top 3 of the term!

So I am doing WAY more work than them and now am far far behind them.

I am hopeing its jut a google storm and that I will re-obtain these rankings.

What "shady stuff" cold a webmaster really do?
Google can't really penalize someone because competitors could do this to each other, right?

You are absolutely right in thinking so. According to me Google will not penalize if a link to your website is coming from a bad neighborhood. Because if it did, I could build shady links for all my competitors and get them banned or dropped out of top 100. It could also be used against my website:mad: However if you link out to a bad neighborhood then the fault is yours.

So in essence it should not have triggered the downfall. Has to be something else. What else have you changed in the recent past. Also I have heard some rumbling about a Algo change at Google, mainly effecting home page of website. Just a rumor. Is it your home page that has lost rankings???
