Help explain how website gets so many backlinks from profiles created w/ their link?

I've notice in some of my niches some new websites that get ranked into the top 10 of google. When I see where their backlinks are coming from, I notice they are coming from forums and the profile is setup with something saying "Come visit my site at XXXXXX".

How are they getting so many links in profiles? Doing them one at a time would take a long time.

Is this not frowned upon by Google?

that's a big business... millions of people do that... you can buy 1000 of profile links for $100 or something like that :)

This is what paid services offer and to some it gets amazing results and some get kicked out of Google. Just your luck I guess :D.

I bought the 500 links for $5. Google indexes them badly and the result is not worth the money.

That just maybe many backlinks, but not the really important backlinks. For all you know they might have paid to get their website featured on the pr 8 website
