Help expanding my site's market

    I'm the owner of ThompsonOutdoorSupply.com

Right now, I'm selling almost exclusively Ka-Bar knives, mostly to military men/women and their families. This was kind of a surprise to me, as I expected my main market to be outdoor sports enthusiasts.

I really want expand my market into the outdoor sports market, as that is a much larger market. It seems to me that probably my difficulty in doing this is competition. My site has nothing special to dinstinguish it from the others. I have a forum and article section, but have not done anything with either, and I don't think either of those will really suffice anyway.

My concept is to publish a free monthly online magazine devoted to outdoor sports. While there are obviously other places that do this, I don't think the market is saturated with online magazines for outdoor sportsmen. This would offer the great advantage of regular visitors. Once I get a reader to my magazine, they will return (with a little reminding) each month to read the new magazine.

Does this idea seem sound? Any input of advice?

Would it be easier to expand the items you sell to military families? It might be more profitable than breaking into a new market. Sounds like you a have a great niche area.
