    Hi,

I have created a website with plenty of pages... Firstly, all the pages had .php extension, then someone advised me to remove this extension for each page... so, changed all the pages in ones without any extension...

The problem is that now Google sees all the pages doubled.... and in my Webmasters Tools account I am told that my content is duplicated...

...in my WT account Google tells me that besides of the page mentioned above I have another page with the same url, but with a .php extension ....and this applies to all the pages of my website...

Can google penalize me for duplicate content? What can I do for google to stop seeing pages with .php extension?

    Thanks

deleting one of the pages might be a good idea as I just found two pages, one with and one without .php

ps then 301 the one to the other on each.

You can 301 redirect the pages that have the .php extensions. Eventually Google will notice the redirect and the new pages will be the sole, canonical versions.

Hang on is the php just your index page being delivered up as a 404?

If so just do the 301 bit and scrub that first bit I said as I just saw your index page is the same as your php so assume that's so...

    supertrafik, all is well.

First, google doesn't have any seriously crazy penalty for sites with internal duplicate content. When it's within one site, Google can usually tell which pages are duplicates and just filter them out when providing search results.

But it still indexes them. Your pages are technically there, so, it's no big deal Google has them in its index.

Alternatively, you could create onpage optimization report using any on page SEO audit software that shows redirects, the structure of your site, etc. Just to see if bots have no problem see the changes you've made.

They sometimes penalize you for it, but it's not a very big penalty, don't worry about it.
