Hey Everyone! I am new this section of DP but I wanted to learn more about keywords. I have been working on my site for quite sometime and I recently revamped my meta descriptions in hopes of promoting new traffic. I was sure if I am going in the right direction so I thought you could help if possible. I am trying to capture an audience of vitamin consumers who want to quality products; as well to learn about various topics of nutrition through my site Details: My old meta title: Doc1 Vitamins | Physician Developed, Highly Effective Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements My new meta title: Buy Superior Quality Vitamins at Affordable Prices | Doc1Vitamins Is that a better choice should I revamp it?
The easiest way to get a jumpstart is to see what other sites that you feel are in your direct competition path use. After all they are ranking high and getting the traffic right? That at least puts you equal on that front and then it will be all about content modification and link exchanges etc.. In addition, see who is competing over what. The way to do this easily would be using overtures (now yahoo) search statistics to see what keyword searches are most searched. Use a very generic term like vitamins. Then scroll down to keyword searches less than 10000 and start with those (getting ranked high on the search terms above this mark is difficult to start so starting here gives you a better shot) Then also use Google Adwords keyword tool. Select the CPC (cost-per-click) relevancy and list by this. You will then see who is paying what for adword placement. This is usually a tell-tale sign of what is being competed over most and therefore what people are looking for..(this last part should not be the only thing you do as it can sometimes be misleading as some people are willing to pay higher for less leads but higher quality leads - but is these match up to the above search then you have your keywords. Once you have that, start making your title, description and keywords meta tags accordingly. And dont feel obligated to include your domain name in the title!
Wait but I was wondering. It seems as though using Overture and then Adwords are contradictive because with one you are looking for one where you receive a less search word or phrase. Then for the next one you are looking for higher priced keywords to look for more popular terms. So, I guess it is better to find a niche, which I think for me will be quality vitamins, but I have to look it up on these tools. Now is my second title more effective as it has more SE applicable info? Also, for keywords is it the same theory.
The shot answer is yes, I believe your new title is more SEO friendly and to the point however, my point was that is it the best title for your content. If you content is geared to get indexed higher for particular terms they should all be in sync. For example, Do you say superior quality vitamins? or is a higher ranking term, something different. When I did a quick search on overture and adwords "quality vitamins" didnt come up on either. However, both had a VERY similar list. One that came out in higher searches and higher CPC was "vitamin supplement " so I would think a better title would be your new one but with one of the old. Buy Superior Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements at Affordable Prices Buy vitamins, vitamins and nutritional supplements and some other combos all use keywords that are getting searched and people are paying for. So that would be the way to get a site to the demand of the people. Make more sense?
Ahhh I get it....Man I really appreciate your help. I kind of understand that when you piece together your title and description you want to choose keywords, which are popular for your category. Is it difficult to get indexed higher if you are choose common search terms? Just curious....
Well yeah, but only because of competition. So the idea is to get ranked high in the less searched areas (10000 hits is still good per month per keyword!) so you get more popularity. More popularity means more people link to you because they want to refer people to you. This means even more popularity. Over time this process repeats itself and you are now in a position to fight with the big guys because you are getting 10000 hits per day.. Just one guys opinion (well one guy with a lot of other guys agreeing)
