Help:convert .mts file (AVCHD) to standard MPEG-2 format??

I have made lots of searches,but the solutions are so complicated.My goal is to convert .mts file (AVCHD) to standard MPEG-2 format.In my searches,it looks like the most recongnised one is Nero 7.But it is brings to the loss of file quality and takes aged time.What software do you use which is easy and fast to use.
Any suggestion?And where can i find it?
