    Hi!

I'm looking at desktops on the Dell site (it has to be a Dell I get, long story) and I have a budget of £700 (UK).

So, I'm thinking the following spec?

    Quad-core 2.33Ghz Intel Processor
    3-4Gb Ram
    256Mb Graphics Card
    500Gb Hard Drive
    20inch Screen

    The main question is, do I get a Quad-core 2.33-2.5Ghz or a dual-core 2.8-3Ghz?

Thanks for your help! I would rep you but it's the general chat forum, so I hope a thank you will do :)

    Will

Ok, thanks guys :) I think I'll go for the 4gb

Do you think the graphics card is big enough (I don't really do any online gaming) and do people generally think the Dual Core 2.8Ghz is better than the Quad Core 2.33Ghz?

Absolutely not... I have used both and suggest you to go for the quad core... Even if you are not into serious gaming, you must be with the latest tech. The quad are out now for past years and the softwares are able to utilize all its potential. I used it on windows 7 and it was running like a hot knife on butter. Also , i would suggest you to opt for the latest in the quad core series, probably q8200 or q8300. Rest depends on your budget.
About the graphic card, the 512 mb cards are really cheap now and you can have one within your budget. If you opt for 256 mb, make sure it is ddr3.

I don't know if the Intel Core i7 CPUs would fit into your price range, but they're definitely the top performers right now and much faster than the Q Series of Quad Core CPUs.

I agree with blichev, I have a quad core right now and am looking to upgrade to the core i7 in the near future. But looking at your budget I would go with the quad core.

    Okay, thanks a lot guys!

I would absolutely love an i7, but my budget is tight even with a Q series, so I'll get one of them in the future one day ;)

    Quad-core here I come - thanks!

Go for the i7 its good. If not go for the Quad Core. Core 2 Duo Extreme is also superb.

    Thanks.
