I had the bright idea of creating a subject-specific, niche directory for only celebrities and now I'm not feeling so bright. I found and locked down an acceptable domain name, found and paid for an acceptable directory script, and then found I hadn't a good plan for the directory itself regarding categories, subs, etc. Okay, I thought I had a good idea of how I'd lay it out, but in the process I discovered writer's block, second-guessing, and doubt. As I was building the categories, I realized some input from the community was a must - hope you can take a moment .... What categories would you expect to find in a celebrity directory? (Actors, Actresses, Models, etc.) Here's where the doubt began to sort of sink .... Sports. There are a lot of sub-category possibilities ... should I just make them, or at least the largest of them, simply their own categories versus a sub-category of Sports? A niche directory like celebrities won't necessarily have a lot of categories anyway, so would it be better to have an otherwise traditionally placed sub-categories (Sports-Racing) as it's own parent category (Racing)? Any and all suggestions appreciated; thanks!
Okay, here are just a few... random order. Celebrity Photo Galleries Wallpaper & Screensavers Trailers & Videos Shop Ringtones Posters Forum News Contests Gossip Sports Baseball Legends NASCAR WWE Athletes Basketball Favorites Baseball Favorites Tennis Stars If I know some more I´ll let you know.
I can see how that's a tougher job than it first appears, because there are a lot of celebs that basically hold down more than one job. Model-turned-actress, for instance, or football star turned actor, actor turned governor of California ... Basically a celebrity is just someone who has become renowned in his or her field, whatever that may be. So you have the potential to have nearly as many categories as a general directory, and sometimes even a very similar directory structure. You can class celebs by their job, alphabetically by name, country of origin, age, and sex. Plus you will get a lot of celebrity sites that deal with multiple celebs, perhaps focusing on one area such as gossip, fashion, or celebrity jokes. Maybe you should divide it into these categories: Individual celebs Celebrities by job General celeb sites Celebrity gear for sale Celebrities by location And maybe prepare for overlap by allowing the sites to enter, optionally, details of location, jobs, celebrity name (so you can sort alphabetically), gender, and items for sale.
Wow, are people still doing searches from "Silent Film Stars"? Good suggestion, I wouldn't have thought of that one.
