So I am kind new to the whole online business world. I have been looking in the buy and sell section of this website to see if I can buy a good site and I cam across http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=855412. so what do you think, does it look like a good site to buy for a first timer?
For a first timer, I'd hesitate before jumping in at $3,800... Good enough site maybe, but a lot to venture, to me, on first buy. You know what's a little or a lot to you.
You might consider also doing some comparison shopping at sitepoint too. They divide sites into categories. Just like DP they have a few tips and probably reading all the tips you can find might be helpful.
Reading and researching would be very helpful. This area of business is fraught with scam artists. This guy appears legit so I'm not singling him out. Just telling you how it is in general. Remember screen shots of stats can easily be altered. Don't buy based on screen shots. You have to login yourself.
Don't buy a website based on the income it is generating as of recently. With a good PPC campaign and a decent advertising budget anybody can make a site look like it's a great site that gets a lot of traffic. Is it profitable is the real question. Most of these sites for sale are garbage. If the site was so easy to run and made so much money why would anyone sell it for 6 months worth of income? Supposedly nobody does any work with any of these sites and they all "run by themselves" bunch of bologne.
Unrealistic toots. Most people are not going to just give people log in's. I do not know how many websites you've bought or sold, or the dollar amount on internet property. But I can tell you I would not give 10-20 random bidding jokers a log in to my sites. Stats or otherwise. However, I typically deal in the $XXXX and $XX,XXX range. On smaller things, I suppose it's a judgment call. I still wouldn't. I'll provide all the screen shots your little heart desires, and guarantee they match once you buy. But you are not going to get log in's to anything I own before purchase, and terms. Simply common sense, and security. Not to mention you have a grace period if using escrow to verify things match. 2 cents.
