There is an autorun.ini in my usb flashdrive it triggers some programs. My question is if i put my usb on my computer will it automatically trigger the program upon inserting the usb flashdrive? or upon double clicking the usb drive on my explorer thats when the program automatically run?

I think the program is a virus, i'm not really sure.

    thank you guys!

Firstly, verify that the extension for the file is indeed .ini. If yes, doubleclick on the file and read what the paths point to. If it's a virus file, then you know you're infected. Try to 'stop' the USB drive, it probably won't stop because files are in use.

Ctrl-Alt-Del and select Processes and stop the virus process. Delete those files. Then stop the drive, it should stop. Also delete the virus files off your USB drive.

You can also create an empty autorun.inf and make it read-only.

Google this software, 'Autorun Eater'. It's freeware. Prevent any autorun from running when you insert a flash drive.

Thanks for all of your replies, but my main is how does autorun.ini really work? If i inserted the a flashdrive into a computer with the autorun.ini inside, is it automatically gonna run the application? or you must access the drive first of the flashdrive before it triggers the application?

autorun.ini triggers an application (which ever is defined inside it) as an autorun for a drive (cd, usb drive etc)
in order to access a drive with autorun.ini inside it, just right click the drive n select explore...

whn u open autorun.ini via notpad/wordpad, u can see the small code with the path of the application to start as an autorun.

so that means if a usb flashdrive containing an autorun.ini triggering a program, upon inserting the usb flashdrive to the computer the program will automatically run, right? no exploring the usb drive or opening the usb drive to be able to run the program.

ex. the autorun.inf contains code running the calc.exe and the autourun.inf & calc is inside of a flashdrive, so will the calc run automatically upon inserting the flashdrive to a computer?
